Curly Tree

This is another painting I did for a little girl's bedroom. I think it's really cute, especially with all of her pink stuff. Her room is pink and some other pretty pastel colors, with colorful little bird, owls, squirrels, etc. It's a really cute room. :]

P.S.- I would love to have suggestions for paintings. I like doing requests and such. :]

Thank you,
Meg

Painting for My Room

I'm running out of paintings. I've only been painting since December, so it hasn't been that long. So I'm running out. My real problem is that I cannot think of anything to paint. I'm having painter's block. I don't know how to find inspiration, or once I've found something, turn it into a painting. Help?

Anyway, this one was for my bedroom. It matches the designs and color scheme and such. :]

Marshall University

This post isn't about a painting. Yesterday, I decided to transfer to Marshall University in Huntington, WV. In honor of this decision, I thought I'd tell you guys about a couple of Marshall-related things to check out.

A few years ago, 2007 maybe, a movie was made about Marshall called "We Are Marshall." It's about Marshall's new football coach at the time trying to rebuild the team and lift the morale of the school after a plane crash killed about 80 football players, coaches, and fans. Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Fox star as the coaches.

This is the poster for the movie:

There's a new show called "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution" that premieres this week. British chef Jamie Oliver traveled to Huntington (the fattest city in the nation) and tried to fix the way Huntington eats. I was a little bitter about it at first, because he chose an area near where I live to tackle obesity, but once I saw the "sneak preview," I decided that it's a good thing and I support Jamie 100%. If you live in the U.S., check this out on Friday. If not, check it out online.

Here's a picture of Jamie working as a school cook in Huntington:

So, if you want, give those a look, if not, that's okay. I'm just so excited about going to Marshall that I have to talk about it! lol

The Little Mermaid

One day, I found a picture of the Little Mermaid's Broadway poster. I thought it was cute, so I painted it.

I messed up her fin/tail/thing.

Tom Fletcher

This is another painting of a guy from McFly. This one's of Tom Fletcher, and it looks really cartoon-ish. I don't particularly like it, but oh well. It's going on here anyway. Sometimes I really, really like my portraits, but other times, I basically hate them.

Old Man

This painting is of an old man I saw on TV. I have no clue who he is, but I liked his wrinkled look, so I painted him.

Danny Jones

Danny Jones is a singer from the band McFly, which happens to be my favorite band ever. This portrait is very cartoon-esque. I think it's alright, but not my best work.

Slumdog Millionaire

I love the movie Slumdog Millionaire. There's a scene at the end where the two main characters have a cute little moment before they kiss, so I decided to paint it.

The picture's blurry, but whatever. If you haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire, you should fix that. It's a really good movie! [It even won the 2009 Oscar for Best Picture]

2 Minute Portrait

I saw a man paint a 2 minute portrait of Einstein on Oprah a few weeks ago...It looked really fun and creative, so I tried it. Though mine was much, much, much smaller (his canvas was the size of a small wall), I had trouble making it look the way I wanted in two minutes. I probably should have mixed my colors before starting the timer. But, in the end, I really, really liked it.

Flower

My paintings cover the walls in my fairly small bedroom, so when I have a visitor, they're pretty hard to ignore. A cousin was visiting my house, and said she wanted a painting for her bedroom, which is blue with flower decorations.

I think this is a cute little painting for a little girl's bedroom :]

Another Marlon Brando

This is probably my favorite painting that I've done so far. It's a picture of Marlon Brando(my favorite actor). This is, obviously, another of the black/white portraits on a colorful background. I didn't take enough time with the pictures of my paintings, so the flash, angle, etc. are a little off on every one of them...and the picture of this one does not do it justice.

Tell me what you think, please. :]

Thanks,
Meg

Epic Fail

I love the picture "War's End Kiss," a photo taken in New York City when it was announced that WWII had ended, so I wanted to paint it. I didn't want to try to copy it exactly, so I tried to make it colorful and cute.

Original Picture:

My Painting:

I think it's hideous. His mouth makes it look like he's blowing into her mouth, giving her CPR or something..This is definitely one of the worst I've done. But, I don't want to only post my good paintings. The point of this blog is to get advice and tips, so I might as well post the bad paintings.

So, tell me what you would have done differently, give me a tip on how to fix it, etc., etc.

Thanks,
Meg :]

Girl

This is the biggest painting I've done so far. I can't remember the size, but it's definitely larger than my other paintings. I love this style of painting....I'm not sure what to call it, but when people are painted in this style, I think it's insanely pretty.

Haha, I just noticed that she looks sort of like a drag queen. Once again, please ignore the bad angles of the picture.

Marlon Brando

After I did the doodles on the last post, I decided that I wanted to try painting something that would actually take some thought and be a little more challenging. So, I painted a portrait. This portrait is roughly based off of a picture of Marlon Brando..I didn't make them exactly alike, but I think you can sort of see the resemblance.

My Interpretation:

I don't think it's that awful. Maybe even pretty good for my first attempt at a portrait. I felt pretty successful after painting this one, so I went on to paint several more black/white portraits on a colorful background. I think I've done around 10. Some weren't so successful, unfortunately. I'll post them eventually.

So, feel free to make suggestions, give me tips, or criticize.

Thanks,
Meg

My First Acrylic Paintings

In honor of my first blog post ever, I decided to post my first paintings ever. There are six of them, but I won't post that many on an everyday basis. I turned 19 in December, and for my birthday, my parents bought me an acrylic paint set for beginners. It came with a few boards of canvas, some brushes, some paint, and an easel. I started doodling and this is what I came up with:

I'm not really sure why I painted this. In the picture, the angle and flash are both weird, so try to ignore that.

This one was literally just a doodle. No thought behind it whatsoever, which probably isn't good.

I SERIOUSLY need a new camera. This picture looks so scratched up and messed up, but I promise it isn't. I've been told several times that people want to design bedrooms or living rooms around this little doodle. I think it'd be pretty cool.

I don't like watermelon. But I think they're pretty.

Again, sorry about the flash. I like this one, but I've never been able to put my finger on why I like it.

And this is the last one for the day. Promise. I painted this one after I opened a birthday gift. Hence the bow.

These were my first acrylic paintings ever. I think I've gotten better at painting, but I won't be the judge of that. So, please leave feedback, comments, tips, constructive criticism, etc.

Thanks,
Meg
